Description

Consulate of Austria in Brisbane, Australia. Diplomatic relations between states can be traced back to antiquity. But is was not until the 15th century that Italian city states created permanent representations as one of the essential fundaments of modern diplomacy. At the Viennese Congress (1815) and by virtue of the Aachen Protocol (1818) a uniform classification of diplomats was established, which was confirmed by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961). In 1963 consular affairs too were regulated uniformly by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
As a consequence of two emigration waves - after 1938 as well as starting from 1953 (skilled worker) - about 1200 Austrian-born persons live in New Zealand. The most well-known Austrian in New Zealand was the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000). Successful air traffic negotiations were held in 1998 on the initiative of New Zealand. However, no scheduled air traffic with Austrian or New Zealand air transport companies is intended at present. Since 2000 Austrian Airlines and Air New Zealand are cooperating in the "Star Aliance". International investors take it for granted that the business location of Austria will enable them to exploit top-notch know-how and quality, high performance technologies, a state-of-the-art infrastructure and EU membership with close proximity to Eastern and South Eastern Europe. They decide for surefire success, and thus choose Austria.
