We have a total of six centres and employ approximately 200 staff. Each centre is equipped with the most advanced state-of-the-art technology in radiation planning and treatment, to deliver a high quality of care for patients with cancer. ROV has a proven track record of providing excellence in patient care since establishing its first centre in 1991 and we are third largest provider of radiotherapy services in Australia. We are able to deliver highly conformal radiotherapy, including intensity-modulated radiotherapy, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), and brachytherapy including low-dose rate seed brachytherapy and high-dose rate brachytherapy. Each ROV centre works in partnership with surrounding private and public hospitals, referring doctors, other medical professionals and the community to provide optimal care for cancer patients.
There are 2 linear accelerators (treatment machines) on site. Since October 2009, we have SmartArc technology available on our latest Varian linear accelerator which can offer intensitiy-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) via arc therapy. Brachytherapy at East Melbourne. Low Dose Rate (LDR) brachytherapy using 125-Iodine seeds to treat prostate cancer is performed within the Epworth Freemasons theatres.
High Dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy using a 192-Iridiumn source is administered within our HDR Brachytherapy Suite. For patiets undergoing prostate external beam radiotherapy, treatment accuracy has been enhanced with our gold-seed program.
