PACFA is a national peak body for professional associations within the counselling and psychotherapy profession in Australia. PACFA provides a forum for professional associations to unite in providing professional identity, research, support and public accountability for the profession. PACFA promotes the development of the practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy and represents the profession to the community and government, while respecting the diversity of approaches within the profession.
PACFA is made up 29 Member Associations which have adopted rigorous ethical and training standards, developed by consensus through the PACFA Council, PACFA’s peak governing body. This body reflects the diversity of the profession by including representatives of all PACFA Member Associations.
Strengthen the capacity of PACFA and its member associations Lobby government, private health funds and other key stakeholders for recognition of counselling and psychotherapy Regulate the profession and practice of counselling and psychotherapy Support and develop research in the counselling and psychotherapy field Develop the counselling and psychotherapy workforce to meet the needs of a diverse community Promote the health and wellbeing of diverse groups in Australian communities Ensure values of inclusivity, transparency and consultation inform all PACFA activities.
