Description

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre and its programs are administered within the Australian Government Department of Industry . At Questacon, we strive to promote greater understanding and awareness of science and technology within the community. Were committed to making that experience fun, interactive, and relevant. Find out about the history of Questacon. We opened our Centre in Canberra in 1988, with half of the initial $20 million construction cost paid for by a generous grant from Japan .
Today, our Director, Professor Graham Durant, leads a team of over 200 staff members as well as an additional 65 Volunteer Explainers. Each year, we welcome over 400 000 visitors to our Centre in Canberra, while more than 660 000 see our exhibitions in other museums and centres around Australia and overseas. Our Outreach Programmes take to the roads each year, visiting an additional 110 000 in towns and communities across the country. Questacon’s partnerships are vital to our achievements.
We work closely with a variety of organisations and have a number of successful, long running partnerships with corporate Australia which enable us to deliver our science experiences to Australians in even the remotest parts of the country. Questacon’s annual turnover is approximately $33.3 million, with operating revenue of $22.8 million. We generate 44 per cent of our operating revenue through Centre admissions, programme fees, touring exhibitions and services, Q Shop sales, sponsorship, Q Club memberships and lease revenue.
