The Cathedral of St. Stephen is one of the cornerstones in the history of the Catholic community of Brisbane. The cathedral was built between 1864 and 1922, with extensions made in 1989. In 1859, with the separation of Queensland, the Diocese of Brisbane was created with James Quinn as the first bishop.
